[[underlined]] 140 [[/underlined]] 7th August 1927. A wet morning, clearing at 10 AM. Sun all day on coast: cloudy in hills. Rain in evening on arrival of "depression" from S.W. Warm but very windy! [[underlined]] The Murrough [[/underlined]], S. of Newcastle station & road. 1 = on coast & along railway : 2 = Willow scrub in marshes. Flies. [[underlined]] Anthrax paniscus [[/underlined]] quite common along railway & dunes at 1. [[underlined]] Stratiomys furcata [[/underlined]]. About 8 examples, on Wild Carrot at 1 & on Angelica at 2. [[double underlined]] Chalcid. [[/double underlined]] [[underlined]] Smicra sispes [[/underlined]] L. 1 [[female symbol]] on Angelica in marsh at 2. As I got in sight, it crawl[[strikethrough]] ing [[/strikethrough]]ed under the umbel & stayed there till shaken into net. Presumably bred at expense of [[underlined]] Stratiomys [[/underlined]] larva! [[double underlined]] Aculeatis [[/double underlined]] [[underlined]] Bombus terrestris [[/underlined]] 1 [[male symbol]] on [[underlined]] Carduus palustris [[/underlined]] at 2 the first [[insertion]] ^ [[underlined]] terrestris [[/underlined]] [[/insertion]] seen for months: [[underlined]] B. agrorum [[/underlined]] [[2 virgin female symbols]] common. [[underlined]] B. muscorum [[/underlined]] [[2 female symbols]] frequent. [[underlined]] B. lapidarius [[/underlined]] 1 [[virgin female symbol]]. [[underlined]] B. hortorum [[/underlined]] [[2 virgin female symbols]]. [[underlined]] Psithyrus barbutellus [[/underlined]] 1 [[male symbol]] [ [[underlined]] B. lucorum [[/underlined]] not seen!] [[underlined]] Colletes picistigma [[/underlined]] [[2 male symbols]] (very worn) & [[2 female symbols]] on [[underlined]] Leontodon hispidus [[/underlined]]. [[underlined]] Lissonota bellator [[/underlined]] [[2 female symbols]] (one with almost quadrate 2nd segment, ? this species, abnormal). L. Afternoon fine, but very stormy : fair sun! Logs, near gate of Deerpark, Powerscourt, WI, as on 3rd Aug. [[underlined]] Trypoxylon clavicerum [[/underlined]] 1 [[female symbol]] on [[insertion]] ^ oak [[/insertion]] log with [[underlined]] Passaloecus monilicornis [[/underlined]] where it was seen to enter an old beetle hole on 3rd inst. NEW TO IRELAND. No other aculeates of interest seen, but [[male symbol]] [[underlined]] Psithyrus barbutellus [[/underlined]] as before. Ichneumonidae &c. [[underlined]] Rhyssa persuasoria [[/underlined]] 1 very large [[female symbol]] on log below sawmill, with much white on it & a large rect. patch. of red on centre of mesothorax! Chelonus small sp. 4 or 5 on moss at roots of stump!
