September 3d.1866 Littleton James [[Footnote 1]] Desires to recover possession of his boy James Rennis, who is still retained by his former master Mr Daniel Russell of Robeson County. [[Footnote 2]] Endst. Bvt. Brig. Gen'l. H. Rutherford Supt &c. Resp'y returned with all the papers in the case. The consent of the parents was not obtained and as appears by letter of Lieut. Tipton Asst. Supt. herein enclosed, the child was bound to Mr Russell not withstanding his protest, he appearing before the court by my direction, on behalf of the parents of the child. Respectfully returned to Maj. Gen. O.O. Howard Commissioner B. R.F. and A.L. with reference to endorsement of Bvt. Brig. Gen'l. A. Rutherford By Command of Col. J.V. Bomford Jacob F.
