States that no applications have been made by Freedmen in want of Situations for the past ten days. States that he is in corrispondence with Messrs Wilkes Spencer Co. Iron works,- in regards to the employment of Freedmen. | | Aug. 14th 29. * | Brewer Fisk P. Filed. | Stockbridge Mass. Aug. 14th 68 Wishes to know if a petition to paint the Washington School Building in Raleigh will receive a favorable consideration. | | Sept. 19th 30 | Bell S. A. A.A. Surgn U.S.A. Sept. 19th Refd to Dr. J. B. White = Surgeon in Chf. | Salisbury N.C. Sept 14th 1868. Requests that an Officer be sent to inspect & Condemn some worthless Hospital Property. | | Sept. 21st 31. | Billups Laurence. Sept. 21st refd. to Capt A W M Kellip A.S.A.C. | Scotland Neck N. C. Sept. 12th 1868. Asks for advice in regards to his contract with a man to take charge of a number of workmen. States that this person refuses to pay him for his services. Refered from the Office of Civil Affairs Charleston. S.C. Sept 17th 1868. by Major M. Cogswell 8th Inf. & Bvt. Lt. Col. in Charge | | Sept 18th 32. * | Brewer Fisk P. Filed. | New Haven Ct. Sept. 18th 1868 States in reply to letter asking for an approximate estimate for painting the Washington School Building in Raleigh, that as nearly as he can estimate, the cost for two coats will be $165.00. | | Sept. 28th 33 * | Birnie William Agent &c. Filed. | Lincolnton, N.C. Sept. 23th 1868. States that Messrs. Wilkes Spence & Co. Iron Workers. of that place have made applications for 75 able bodied single man to cut wood. Gives terms | | which will be required by the firm and asks if transportation will be furnished by the Bureau, to be refunded from their wages, as soon as they have worked sufficiently to pay for the same &c. | | Oct. 16th 34 * | Birnie William Agent &c. Oct. 19th refd. to Dr. H. C. Vogel, Supt. of Education Oct 20th returned - with letter of M E Sherman, Act. asking the Bureau to expend $50.00 for Freedmens School at Lincolnton.- Filed. | Lincolnton N.C. Oct. 14th 1868. Submits estimate of material required to make the School House at that place comfortable, and requests that permission be granted to purchase the same. States that the freedmen will preform the labor in case the material is furnished, and that the sum of $34 50/100 will be sufficient [[strikethrough]] will [[/strikethrough]] to put the building in suitable repair. | | Oct. 1st 35 * | Brodie G. W. Cashier Filed. | Raleigh September 30th 1868. Gives amount of Deposits Drafts and Ballance due Depositors in Branch of Freedmans Bank, at Raleigh up to date. | | Oct. 23d. 36 | Barringer Noah J. P. & Ins. of Election Oct. 23d referred to Capt. W.G. Fetch USA. in charge of Bureau of Civil Affairs, Charleston, S.C. | Newton, Catawba Co. N.C. Oct. 19" Writes in reference to pay for his services as "Inspector of Elections," for the late elections. States that himself, and the other Inspectors for Catawba Co. forwarded Receipts duly signed &c, to Hd.
