Louis V. A. A. A. G. EB. p. 71- | Charleston July 7" 1868- Refers communication of Tho^s B. Long, J. P. for Chatham Co. N. C. who states that 70 paupers are being taken care of (without regard to race or color) in the Poor-house of Chatham Co. & that on account of the destitution prevailing, Gov't assistance in the furnishing of provisions is respectfully requested. July 25th 28 * | Smith. E. P. Agent. A. M. Assn. Filed | New York. July 21st Requested the Asst. Com. of N.C. to have the Hospital Dep't. supply the Orphan Asylum at Wilmington with Iron bedsteads, and to make an appropriation of $1500. for the refitting of the dormitories of said asylum & the construction of a school building. Aug. 15th 29. | Sinclair James, Rep. Robeson Co. Aug. 18. referred to A. Thomas Agt. Lumberton N.C. Any expressions used in any capacity other than as a Bureau off. will be at risk of party making them. No responsibility will be assumed by these Hd. Qrs. | House of Rep. Raleigh, Aug. 13th 1868 Calls attention to the conduct of of [[sic]] one of the Subordinates of the Bureau who he alleges made a violent & inflammatory Speech against him in the Court House, at Lumberton Robeson Co. Sept 7th 1868 Transmits duplicate Copies of proceeding of Boards of Officers ordered to convene & establish a rental for the building belonging to T. J. Hayward, to be used as offices for District Agent & Superintendent of Education. Sept. 2nd. 32 * | Scarlett John A. Agent Filed. | Raleigh N.C. Sept. 1st 1868. Tenders his resignation as an Officer of the Bureau to take effect September 20th 1868. Sept 15th 33 | Snipes E. T. Member of the Legislature Sept. 15th 1868 refd to C. W. Dodge | Murfreesboro, N.C. Sept. 10th 1868. States that he learned from Senator Poole before he left Raleigh that some rations had been issued out for Hertford Co. (also for Gates) and that he is informed that there is considerable suffering there (in Hertford) and asks for 100 to 125 Bushels of Corn & some Pork, to be sent in care of Daniel Valentine, of Winton. Sept. 2d 34. |South Department of Drum W. A. A. A Gen. E.B.p.94. | Atlanta Ga. Aug. 25th 1868. Refers for investigation & report as to what authority exists for furnishing rations to any one not in the Military Service of the U.S. also for the reasons if any for continuing such issues. - Report of J.J. Upham Willmington N.C. Aug. 10th 1868. of the number of Rations issued to destitute persons at that Post.
