4.) 23rd Sept. 1949. A very beautiful day; nearly all sunny after 10 AM following some days of east wind & much rain with SE. wind on 22nd - the first really wet day for some time. In afternoon drove to Deey Lock on Royal Canal, W. of Louisa Bridge, Co. KD., & collected by sweeping in two fields between canal and Maynooth road as often before and as follows:- 1 = W.& S. sides of 3rd field W. of Louisa Bridge; nearly all insects taken along hedge on W. side of field, in first year hay this season. 2 = amongst turnips & beet, & along S. side of 2nd field W. of Louisa Bridge. Saw many Common Blue butterflies along the path of canal; Aeschna grandis (1) and Bombus sylvarum (1♂︎). Insects taken at 1. [31 mtd. from 1 & these labelled 26.11.49.] Epitomus pygmaeus ♂︎, ant. 20. Cryptinids 9: 1 mtd = Pezomachus sp. ♀︎ ant. 18. Stenomacrus sp. ♂︎: not mtd Mesochorus sp. 3 small ♂︎♂︎: 2 mtd. ant. 24 & 25. Leptopygus harpurus? ♂︎, not mtd. 5.) 23.9.49, cont. Royal Canal, KD., cont. Taken at 1, cont. Sigalphus caudatus 2♀︎♀︎ & S. floricola 1♀︎; also 3 ♂︎♂︎ (? which species!) Perilitus 9 (♂︎♂︎ & ♀︎♀︎) = 4 spp.? as follows:- P. caudatus Thoms. 1♀︎, ant. 25.
