Eastern Cordillera Colombia [[circled]] 130 [[/circled]] Mixed Diglossini, I September 7, 1965 Santa Rosa SEE TODAY'S NOTES ON GENERAL MIXED FLOCKS [[footnote 1]] 7:17 a.m. 10,150 ft. Near Humer R's and R-Zaza's in AS Also 1 brief Humer Song. NODWAH [[footnote 2]] NOTE: This area, as a whole, [[underlined]] seems [[/underlined]] to be about as poor in Diglossini as anywhere I have ever been. Possibly the birds are just "hidden". If so, they probably are [[underlined]] not [[/underlined]] in breeding condition (altho species of other groups may be). [[footnote 3]] When see Rufs with flock which also includes White-spectacled Whitertarts (discovered elsewhere). One or both Ruf(s) utter(s) an appreciable number of Twitters from time to time. Usually or always as "Greetings". [[underlined]] Not [[/underlined]] overlapping White-spectacled songs. [[footnote 4]] Twitters rather variable in form. All rapid, [[underlined]] loud [[/underlined]], and clear. At least one Twitter is a "completely" formless warble — quite like a loud version of the Twitters of Cys [[underlined]] without [[/underlined]] Intro Notes. Another Twitter begins as a formless warble but ends with 2 or 3 quite distinct "Zaawee" Notes. Grauution between initial formless phase and terminal "Zaawee" phase is gradual (but rapid). Another Twitter include a formless warble, followed by 2 or 3 "Zaawee" or Zaa-a-wee" Notes, followed by another brief formless warble, and ending with more "Zaa-wee" or "Zaa-a-wee" Notes. (Again transitions between different phases are gradual but rapid.) [footnote 5]] It would appear that the Ruf Twitters include notes which are nicely intermediate between "typical Diglossa doublets" and "typical Conirostrum triplets"!!! ([[underlined]] This may be further evidence that Diglossa and Conirostrum really are closely related. [[/underlined]] [[footnote 6]] As far as I could tell, the Ruf Twitters were [[underlined]] not [[/underlined]] accompanied by any special postures or movements.
