I will get this into the Postoffice and think you may wish to wire me...yes or no, and if possible put a limit on it that may seem reasonable to you. If [[underlined]]NO[[/underlined]], of course I will not act.

The plane is full tomorrow, Wednesday, so I have booked on Thursday a.m. at 8 o'clock, arriving there about 10 15, will go straight to Mr Stone, and try to get to Wiesbaden by noon or xxx before, as there is that darned interval of two hours lost otherwise. I will try to get him to send me over in a jeep or something, as I may as well use the Embassy's kindness to the limit.

Tell me in your wire whether you think I should still take the AMERICA on Sunday midnight. I dont exactly know your feeling about my staying longer, but am willing to do so if you want me to.

Yours as always,
^[[John]]

Perhaps the fact of building a house in Monte Carlo would be a deciding factor in his being interested in selling the Delft. With present prices, he will need money.

I am wondering what you think of the [[underlined]] Holbein[[/underlined]] proposition. Of course you know the picture. If the Black drawings [[underlined]] on paper[[/underlined]] are worth $250,000. or more, certainly this magnificent picture would have a real market at more than twice the sum. And if it can be had over in New York, as a sure thing, it seems a lot more desirable to work on than Stone's Leonardo. However, I could be wrong.
