[[image - Black and white photograph of a Manuscript (Ms)]. The square front cover of a Ms, covered in thread bear fabric, probably velvet.

Inset from the edge is a square appliqued border of alternating qua-trefoils and rounded lozenges. Each worn fabric applique is pinned to the cover with small tacks. The pattern on the lozenges is a vine with three leaves (grape or ivy?). Each qua-trefoil is different and most are too worn to read accurately. The ones at the corners all appear to depict winged animals, such as a pelican feeding it three chicks with blood from its breast. The four qua-trefoils in the straight sections all appear to be a Saints with a Nimbus. Partial names can be read on some of the qua-trefoils. Best guess, they represent Matthew, John, Mark, and a fourth which cannot be read may be Luke.

In the center of the cover is another applique, pinned at the corners by tacks. It is very worn down but appears to represent a group of seated people who face another group of people with nimbus's. Along one edge of the cover are two metal loops which serve to hold the manuscript closed. This appears to be the cover of a Gospel.
