Dear John:

It was good to receive your note of December 8th, and do have my thanks for the check you enclosed.

However, in turn, do let me send to you my firm's check in the amount of $20.60 (twenty dollars and sixty cents) for, if I agree with you that the original selling price was already a moderate one, I was, nevertheless, happy to be able to adjust this figure further, wishing you to have the full benefit of it.  Friends require special treatment whenever possible....and furthermore, Porjes told me that it would complicate his bookkeeping..!

The excitement of the exhibition is now over, and why don't we get together over the "apple sauce" some day next week.
