Dear John:

Upon receipt of your letter yesterday, I immediately cabled that I was strongly against offering the Spanish Primitive to Mr. Ferré.

There are several reasons militating against this, the most important being the heavy expenses in which he is involved on account of the new museum he is building. There are others of a psychological nature which I will go into when we meet again.

It is correct of course that you asked me a little while ago about Dr. Held, but had I known the purpose of your inquiry I would have written you then as I do today.

Trusting you will not mind my expressing myself with such frankness, and with kind thoughts,

Yours,

Germain Seligman
