^[[Dear Germain - ]]
Translated by a friend in the Investment Banking business in Remote Broad Street.... and completely unversed in the int^[[r]]icacies of our aesthetic stratosphere. In other words, a very fortunate fellow, with only the stock market to supervise^[[!]]

On my part, I wish I could read into W.'s letter, anything of encouragement. There may be subtleties in the German version (the original of this) which may have escaped the eye of my friend. Wilhelm, in a playful mood (?) put several varieties of the new Licht. stamps on the envelope. (Cont'd below)

Dear Mr Cunningham:

I gratefully acknowledge receipt of your letter. I was interested to hear that you were in Vienna.

In your letter you again inquire whether the Prince would consider to sell some of the Bronzes that are located in Vienna. The situation has not changed in this case, and the Prince is not inclined to give away (sic) any prominent Bronzes. This is not a question of obtaining the Export License on behalf of the Memorial Administration Office of Vienna. This permission would have been received by us if we had applied for it years ago. ^[[large exclamation point in right hand margin]] The situation is this - that the Prince likes the Bronzes himself and therefore is not inclined to sell even one piece of them.

I am sorry to give you this negative reply, but probably it is also for you better if you know exactly the inclination of the Prince.

With respectful regards,
(Sgd) G Wilhelm

On second thought, I'll send a ^[[photostat]] copy of the German text.

So far, no word from the Gothic lady. It doesn't surprise me. But I am ever the optimist.

It looks from here as though this may be a disturbed Summer in France, Spain, Algeria, Asia, Africa, England, and points East and West, and Germany and Laos are not to be overlooked. The prospect does not inspire cheers.

I hope you may be able to pick out a secluded, charming spot and there, forget the world, lost in a good book.

Kindest messages to you both,

Sincerely,
