In the House Mr. Metcalfe, Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Panama Canal of the Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries, introduced H.R. 3348, a bill identical to that approved by the Regents in January, at the request of the Smithsonian on February ninth.  On March 22 hearings were held before the Subcommittee and a request was made to increase the authorized level of appropriations from the $600,000 contained in the bill to $750,000.  The subcommittee approved the measure at the $750,000 level on May second and the full Committee did the same on May fourth.

[[underline]]Hirshhorn Museum Film[[/underline]]

S. 1030, a bill to make the film about the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, produced by the United States Information Agency, available in the United States, was introduced on March 17 by Senator Jackson for himself, Senator Goldwater, and Senator Pell, and referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations which has taken no action on it.

A companion measure, H.R. 6085, was introduced on April fifth by Mr. Mahon for himself, Mr. Cederberg, and Mrs. Boggs.  It was referred to the Committee on International Relations which reported it favorably on April 27 as an amendment to the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, Fiscal Year 1978.  The Act was approved by the House on May fourth.
