DUTCH SCHOOL, 17th CENTURY

61 A WINTER LANDSCAPE with many figures skating on a frozen river, and others in a horse-drawn sleigh - signed - pen and brown ink, grey wash - 7 1/2in. by 10 3/4in. - bears the collector's mark Lugt, No. 893 (other sheets in the collection from which this drawing is derived bear the mark of Edmund Prideaux, Lugt. No. 888: drawings from the Napier Collection, sold in these rooms in October 1958, also bore this mark, which was then assumed to be an alternative mark to Lugt, No. 891 and 892, those of Edward Peart, from whose collection many of the Napier drawings were derived. The second drawing in this lot, a copy by Edmund Prideaux himself of an engraving by Polidoro, also bears this mark: this seems to indicate quite clearly that Lugt, No. 893 is yet a fourth Prideaux mark); and PASIPHAE ENTERING THE HOLLOW COW - signed and inscribed - pen and brown ink, brown wash - 7½in. by 9½in. - (two) 2
