Paris, July 8th 1936

Dear Carl,

Following your letter of July 6th., and your telephone call of yesterday afternoon, I immediately got in touch with my intermediary in order to see what could be done as regards the Rembrandt portrait.

He told me that he would not be able to give me any further information before to-morrow as it seems from a telephone conversation that he had with Katz that the latter has given an option to a private collector until to-night.

As long as the price of this picture was one million francs, it might have been a very interesting one, but I do feel the way you do, that is that if Katz maintains a price such as the one he quoted Howard Young, I really can't see anything in it. However, as soon as I hear further about this matter, I will communicate with you.

[[underline]] Seurat [[/underline]] : We have been approached to loan the Seurat we own on joint account with you, for an exhibition of 19th century French paintings to take place from October 1rst to 31rst of this year, and to be held in London, the exhibition being organized by Lord Ivor Churchill, Flechtheim, Rosenberg, and the Earl of Sandwich. Before acceding to this request, I would like to know how you feel about it.

Looking forward to hearing from you, with my kindest regards, I am,

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Seligmann)
