OIL PAINTING BY PAUL GAUGUIN [[/underline]]

[[underline]]Quantity[[/underline]] - 1 

[[underline]]Description[[/underline]] - Framed Oil Painting on wood by Paul Gauguin (1848-1893) French Impressionist, entitled "Three Dogs, Three Wineglasses, Three Apples", initialed and dated in lower left hand corner "PGo/88" indicating that it was painted in 1888. The height of the picture without frame is 36" and the width 24 1/2". The frame is made of carved wood and plaster and the overall dimensions are 47 3/8" high and 36" wide.

The painting was exhibited by the Museum of Modern Art, 11 West 53rd Street, New York, New York, from May 10 to September, 30, 1939, and from time to time since then. A photoengraving of the picture is shown on plate #64 in the catalog entitled "Art in Our Time", prepared for the Tenth Anniversary Exhibition of the Museum of Modern Art.

OIL PAINTINGS AND PASTELS BY WERNER SCHOLZ[[/underline]]

Lots Nos. 16 to 34 inclusive, as listed below, are 16 paintings by Werner Scholz on composition board with stained wood frames and 29 mounted pastels.

Scholz is an artist of the modern school who was born in 1898, in Berlin, Germany. Dresslers Kunsthandbuch lists him as a member of the Berlin Academy of Art where certain of his pictures are said to have been exhibited. A number of his works are reported to have been shown in 1936 at the Carnegie International Exhibition held in Pittsburg, Pa.
