Gold.

I have wished for gold,
I have sought the metal cold,
But I've found a purer, enfold
In the glowing heart of a poppy.

Mine with no man's grief,
Mine while nature is my fief,
Gold of a golden belief,
In the glowing heart of a poppy!

Gold of the sun rays,
Gold of Life's sincere joy ways -
God-thoughts there await my gaze,
In the glowing heart of a poppy.

[[preceding is typed; following is handwritten]]

Dear Sirs,

This poem is an attempt at expression of my love for the California poppy, seeds of which I bought of Burpee. If this poem may enter the Letter Contest I would be pleased; I am also enclosing a real letter.

Respectfully Yours,
(Miss) May [[C?]] Davis
