In my mother's garden were lovely Burpee's sweet peas. One warm afternoon I asked to take some to a friend. My mother forbade it. I had always done as I pleased and couldn't understand why I should be denied this pleasure. The flowers were lovely and so abundant my friend would appreciate them, and what a joy for me to take them to her! So I picked them. As I passed my mother's window she saw me and called me to her. She talked of my disobedience, how it hurt her, how it weakened my character
