Stanley Lothrop's Ranch near Colorado Springs Colorado 14 August 1939 Dear Germain, Nearly a month has elapsed since I arrived in Kansas City, and spent 10 days visiting the Vincents in their new home - the nicest in Kansas City - which recalls French country houses. They are still too occupied in paying for it to think of buying anything to put in it. It was over 100° Fahrenheit all the time I was in K.C.; but the Vincents gave a dinner party for me; and later the Joneses a huge one at The Country Club; and the [[?]] Kempers had a large dance for friends, and so life goes on in K.C.! I don't know how they stand it. Nothing will be decided about the Bellini until Autumn. They all like it; Paul has become as much of a chiseler as T. C. ever was; and the treasury has been emptied in the name of the Oriental Department! Pazienza. I didn't write you before, as I have been expecting Herbert Jones and his wife up here, and hoped I might be able to write something more definite after further talks with him, but they were unable to come.
