August 16th., 1940 

Dear Harold: 

If I didn't answer you any earlier, acknowledging your very kind lines of July 31st., and thanking you for your sincere words of sympathy, it is because I was hoping any day to make plans to join you in Colorado. However, as you will see from the above, I am still in town, though I have been away for a few weeks and the necessity of remaining in the immediate vicinity of New York on account of the European conditions, and the fact that we are moving out of this building, precludes for the time being, as much as I may regret it, my joining you and motoring to California. 

Nevertheless, if you are not too tired of my constant procrastinations as regards this trip, let me hear from you towards the end of the month, as it is - as I have told you so often - a much cherished desire of mine to see that part of the States, of which I know so very little. 

I do want to thank you for your suggestion as to the apartment in your building. I love the idea, but I
