As I wrote you,I am to make a selection of paintings for a late November and all of December exhibition; and from that group I think the Trustees will make a considerable number of purchases.

I'll try to find out in K.C. what the chances are for an early consideration of the Memling. It is still the one and only painting we have in our minds. But I am pretty sure it is a bit too early to try to force matters. If I find it would be advisable to bring it out at this time,I will wire you; but I do not think that will be the case. I think it will have to wait until a little later in the Fall.

Poland sent me to see the two old ladies who presented the beautiful Velazquez, head of the Infanta-Harris, Durlacher; the Saint Peter of El Greco; ex-Hirsch;and the Bosch, Lilienfeldt. They are two old spinsters, the Misses Putnam. They are to be in New York with him this week, I don't know where; but hope you can tempt them in with him. The Mantegna might be just their cup of tea. In a few years' time he has built up the best old master collection on the Pacific Coast.

I shall be at the Hotel Bellerive, Kansas, City, from Sunday until Friday morning.

Kindest wishes,
