Mr. Henry Sayles Francis
Curator of Paintings, Prints & Drawings
Cleveland Museum of Art
Cleveland, Ohio

March 2, 1943

Dear Harry:

William asks me to send the enclosed copy to you.

On receipt of his letter, I telephoned Mr. Seligmann who seems to think that it will be necessary for the Museum to supply the insurance, as the owner seems insistent on selling the painting "in loco", and will not undertake the matter. Mr. Seligmann tells me that his own policy cannot apply, as the property does not belong to his firm; but he will gladly undertake the packing and attend to the shipment. He is writing you fully in regard to these matters and to the date of payment, after further consultation with Mr. Rockefeller.

Purchasing from private owners always seems more complicated than dealing with the art dealers; but since this is, so far as I know, the last of the great late Goya's which is likely to come onto the market, I think the Museum Trustees have shown great wisdom in securing it, even at the cost of having to undertake those expenses which are usually borne by the seller.

Sincerely,

(signed) Harold W.Parsons
