Dear Germain, 
My trip in Spain with my cousin Wayne was extremely pleasant; a week in Madrid with excursions to the Escorial, Toledo - where from the house of El Greco - we saw a violent thunder-storm over the city, exactly like the Havemeyer picture in the Met.! Then a long motor trip to Cordova, Seville, Granada and Ubeda. Finally a plane to Rome. 

There is a superb Zurbaran in Madrid, but the dealer says he cannot sell it! Perhaps he has. Taylor, Weble, now Rousseau have all been there; also Marceau. I saw a fine triptych by Isenbrandt; and there is a religious subject by El Greco which will soon be available. Both prices high, but something could be managed. Otherwise I saw nothing. 

Madrid art circles were chattering about the departure of a [[underline]]wonderful[[/underline]] Greco portrait of a Trinitarian Monk, seated in a chair, which had left Spain last year, at least within a year and probably only some months ago. In confidence, I can tell you that I saw it at Wildenstein's
