(Lighting by Thomas S. Kelly) created as a background for the following paintings: Kanelba, Raymond - "Captain of the Home Guards" - "The Bugler of the Klan" de Vlaminck, Maurice - "Banlieue" Rousseau, Henri - "Banlieue de Paris" Terechkovitch, Constantin - "The Cadet of Sainte Cyr" Kane, John - "Juanita River" Picasso, Pablo - "Oceanic Mask, No. 1" - "Oceanic Mask, No. 2" Grigoriev, Boris - "Birds from Brazil" The focus of this room is the beautiful wrought-iron bed in which it is said one of Napoleon's marshals slept. The framework of the bed is designed in strong, simple, yet very graceful lines; the simplicity is not at all marred by a delicate pattern of gold leaf traced on the wrought-iron frame. A gilt crown is suspended above the center of the bed by four slender, arched, wrought-iron rods branching from the corners of the bed. From this crown a cream net canopy, edged amusingly with small brass rings, is carried gracefully to headboard and footboard. The Napoleonic influence, in its military aspect, pervades the room. A drum to which the Little Corporal's soldiers marched appears as a small table, a leather cartridge case is used as a waste basket, and glass sabres make brevet-like lines above the fireplace at either side of the oil by Terechkovitch, "The Cadet of Sainte Cyr". Other items of interest in the room are: Wall - painted cream Ceiling - " "[[ditto for painted cream]] Floor - "[[ditto for painted]] dark walnut Rug - cream and gold hand-hooked rug Windows - cream celanese ninon curtains with hand-blocked gold - bees and border - black wrought-iron poles Geographical Globes, Pr. - mahogany bases, flanking desk Desk - Louis XVI, mahogany, hand-tooled leather top, draw shelves at each end; on it, carved wood clock with figure of Napoleon, pair of brass and black tole lamps Desk Chair - round back, upholstered in cream and blue striped satin
