July 18. Went to most of my traps before breakfast, caught an Evolomys, a Red Squirrel & an Arctomys.
Went to town after my mail, took gun & hunted along the way. got a S. 13lineatus & crossbill - probably mexicana.
Prepared specimens & hunted after noon.
Watched for bats in evening, saw 3, shot at one but missed it.
Cold in morning (42[[degree symbol]]) & cool all day.

" [[ditto for: July]] 19. Splendid weather, just warm enough to take off my flannel afternoon.
Took a new rout in morning, over more open ground. Killed an old, big Woodchuck, saw two more.
Found some fox holes & set traps for them. Killed some birds, caught two mice, & a Thomomys talpoides.
Skinned part of the things, did'nt have time to all.
Got one good shot at a bat in evening, guess I brought it down but couldnt find it.
