w's could also be greek lowercase omegas which are used in physics for angular frequency. The [[alpha]] symbol could be an a, but is more likely an alpha given the subject matter. Alphas in physics may be used to denote angular acceleration. The [[gamma]] and [[beta]] symbols can denote many different variables in science, so it's not clear in this case. I think "w" means "wide"
