June 19. Reached El Paso at 9:30 A.M. Had about 5 hours of daylight before reaching the Rio Grande R. All of that time we were passing over a level, grassy plain, almost uninhabited.

Holes & mounds of Dipodomys deserti (?) were common all along to near the river valley. so were other small holes of probably Spermophiles & small Dipodomys.

Very hot at El Paso, 105 [[degree symbol]] at 3 P.M. My old complaint has returned. I did not go for a tramp till towards evening & then found only a Coon & few Rabbit tracks. Found no place to set traps. Saw one Salpinctus & 2 Night Hawks. Saw Bats in town in evining.
