January 15th, 1936.

Dear Mr. Rosengart,

I am writing to you to ask if you would be good enough to enable us to keep the picture by van Gogh "The Olive Trees" a little longer than was originally agreed upon in our correspondence.

As you will probably remember, the picture took a very long time coming over due to the fact that it had been shipped on a very slow boat, and, as a consequence, we could only begin our work with this picture towards the end of November.

We have only had really five weeks to work with it, and during that time there have been the Christmas and New Year holidays, which have paralyzed us to quite an extent. We have not been able to show this picture to many of our clients, but we expect their visits pretty shortly.

We understand that things in Europe are rather slow, and I hope therefore that you will not mind if we keep this picture here until April.

Awaiting your kind and favorable answer on this question, and thanking you in advance,

Please believe me to be
Yours very truly,
(C. M. de Hauke)
