---------------------------
SEURAT "Small Study for La Parade"
Painted on wood: 6-3/4" x 9-7/8"
The picture is a smaller version of one of the six major works by SEURAT, "La Parade", which is now in the Collection of Stephen Clark, New York. Whereas the big picture is a completely finished work, this one is also, but in a different sense, for the yellow background which forms the base of the picture is merely the panel showing through - all the more remarkable in revealing Seurat's technique. This little picture actually has the force and greatness of the major version.
SEURAT had many studies for this picture for which a few drawings are extant.
