December 26th, 1924.

Mr. Rene Seligmann,
Jacques Seligmann & Co., Inc.,
705 Fifth Avenue,
New York City.

My dear Mr. Seligmann:-

Thanks for your letter ^[[and enclosures]] of the 22d., and for the tapestry, which arrived Wednesday just as we were closing for Christmas. It has been unpacked and we expect to hang it in Mr. Ritter's house tomorrow, when some Christmas guests have gone.

I am enclosing herewith, a clipping from the WASHINGTON POST of this morning, which will be in a measure self-explanatory. You will note that even as we were trying to make a certain room presentable, the owner of it was giving away what has been conservatively put at THREE MILLIONS of DOLLARS. The question naturally arises- Were we occupying our time to the BEST advantage? I think not.

This client of ours is rigidly economical when the matter of spending a thousand dollars comes up, and yet you see what he is capable of. When I went over to have a look around, I found that his man had placed over the drawing room fireplace, where the Chinnery was destined to hang, a mirror!- and such a mirror. It was bought in France last Summer at the time the little Bloemmer painting which hung there, was purchased. It is impossible to tell you how bad it is. I hope to be able to say a few things to this client within a day or so, as to that room and some of its effects. They have all been shifted around since your visit, and much new and modern furniture has been placed there. I grow hopeless when I think of it and his iron-like nature.

The owners of the large house have been entertaining over Christmas, and have not been available. In a day or two, I shall have something to write you. In the meantime, possess your soul in patience, and believe me to be,

Sincerely yours,
