Dear Sir;

To begin with, I would like you to accept my apologies for writing this letter despite any prenotion on your side, but I have known your name through art books as one of the best collectors of European arts.

Now, I am in New York specifically to photograph European paintings for reproduction's purpose, for, as you may know, there is very few collection of European paintings in Japan, especially by French artists in the 18th and 19th century.

Though I have no knowledge whether or not you would like allow some of the paintings you possess to be photographed, those photographed will be used principally for calendars which are published by various firms and distributed free so that people in Japan could further appreciate masterpieces of European arts.

I would thank you in advance for your understanding and kind co-operation.

I would very much appreciate it if you contact me regarding this matter at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely yours,
