Gentlemen:

I am writing you in connection with your auction XLVIII of June 3rd. Under no. 481 you mention and reproduce a drawing which you catalogue as by Edouard Manet - "Fruhstuck bei Pere Lathuille", as well as no. 482 -"Studie aus dem Gartenrestaurant Pere Lathuille". You mention in this connection that they came from the Lucien Mignon (Paris) collection. These drawings could perhaps be of interest to me, but I would like to know whether you could give me some additional information as to their earlier pedigrees and whether they have been recognized as original drawings by Manet by some of the art historians who have specialized in that field. I find nowhere, that is in none of the reference books, the mention of the Mignon collection (although I realize fully that unbeknown to me it may be a very important one.)

Now in connection with no. 192 -"Vie de la Vierge", by P-A. Baudouin, I am wondering whether you could supply me with better photographs than the one in your catalogue (I would also appreciate this in connection with the two Manet drawings), and also, again, whether you have any pedigree in connection with it.

Looking forward to hearing further from you and with anticipated thanks,

Yours very sincerely,

Germain Seligman
