Dear Mrs. Defty:

Indeed with the announcement of your Swedish show I noticed a small card posting me about your return to the art world; and Mrs. Parker sent you at once a few lines telling you how happy we all were to hear from you.

Your good letter received this morning which I am really glad to have, brings forth certain queries. I would be perfectly willing of course, to send you drawings for your early spring exhibition. However, you must bear in mind that we no longer have any so-called modern paintings and/or drawings - or quite exceptionally so. Thus, the only ones we could make available to you would be, perforce, of past centuries and/or early and middle XIXth century. Should this fit in with your plans, in order to give me a better idea of how we could be of help, do give me a notion of what you would consider as the top price you feel you would have a chance to sell.

I know that there are some very rich collectors in Saint Louis but I gathered, right or wrong, that they are all interested in the contemporary field and do not go back further than the Impressionists which I repeat, would of course leave us out.

Another useful indication would be the approximate dates at which you would hold your show, for you will understand that the later in the season the easier it would be for us to cooperate.

Meanwhile, let me convey to you my very best wishes for success in your new endeavor, and with personal regards,

Sincerely yours,
Germain Seligman
