Dear Mr. Seligmann:-

I have been waiting for a letter from you as I could not impart (without the query from you) news of a business transaction arranged with my client Mr. G.

There were several portraits in the Mulliken collection which interest^[[ed]] Mrs. G. but by a process of elimination I boiled them down to the one, the [[underline]] Mme Schindlerin [[/underline]] by Reynolds, which I purchased for her.

When a client wants some particular thing and the quality is O.K. it is difficult not to agree with them and really to your advantage to help them conclude the transaction. One portrait after all is not a big space filler.

The G's are in the South and are returning just prior to a reception of some kind about February 2nd. It is absolutely impossible to interest Mr. G. we must wait until the turn is well on the way upward and Mrs. G. cannot purchase anything as high priced as the Lawrence for instance.

I am sure that only a "bargain" which Mrs. G. is convinced of will interest her in spending more than a nominal figure. For instance if your large Lawrence was offered her at $30,000.- I believe she would make some arrangements with Mr. G. to possess it.
