[[blank page]] [[end page]] [[start page]] Oct. 24. Caught an Onychomys & 2 Perognathus fasciatus (?) & 4 Hesperomes. The Hesperomes fairly swarm on the flats among Grease brush - seen to be scarce up on the hills.. Left camp before 8 oclock & followed down the river crossed the north fork & over two ridge & then down into the main valley again. After crossing the North Fork, lava rock begins & farms rocky hills along both sides of the valley. There seems to be no lava about the East Humboldt Mts. We have them out of sight to the E. & S. General feature of country about the same, more sandy in places, a wide grassy meadow all along the river, river small & sluggish. [[strikethrough]] Reach [[/strikethrough]] Found tracks of the new kind of Perognathus (or Dipodops) tracks of their two hind feet side by side. Reached Elko at about 2 P.M. Did what business I could & them went on to the first ranch out of town & camped, A cold morning, 24 [[degree symbol]] a few minute after sunrise - A hot day, fearfully dusty -
