and a little up the stream are 2 fallen across the creek that are about 9 and 12 feet through 10 feet from butts. Don't know how long they are the tops run over hill out of sight.
Saw a Bear track in the thick brush between camp & river. The brush is so thick on the slopes below pine timber that we could hardly get through. mostly Ceonathus & Arctostaphylis & Quercus brewerii and Fremontia.
Killed a Rattle snake 45 1/2 inches long.
Killed 4 Vespertillio melanorhynus in evening. A warm day, cold nights.

[[underlined]] July 29 [[/underlined]] Caught only a big eared Hesperomys, shot a Cnemadophorus & a Sceloporus,
Made up skins & wrote up notes in A.M. measured a Sequoia that had fallen down. It was 30 1/2 feet around 20 feet from but & 260 feet to end where it had broken off & was 14 inches through. They are a slow growing tree, one large one that had been sawed off averaged 12 anual rings to the inch.
Packed up & started up the road at 1 P.M. Aneroid read 5300 at camp on starting, 6100 at mill 3 miles beyond, went half a mile beyond mill & camped
Aneroid read 6200 at camp at 3 P.M.
Set traps & shot a Tamias different from the one below - no bats in evening.
A pleasant day, not too warm -
