I reached a peak, or crest of the range north of Mineral King where I could look down onto the head of another stream that I suppose is the head of main Kaweah River. The peaks beyond are higher and very jagged & sharp. large masses of snow lie on north slopes and extend down among the timber. The south slopes are mostly bare, though small bodies of snow come down nearly to timberline, some below in gluches. A cool day, 42 [[degree symbol]] at 7 A.M. Got down from the Mts. at 5 P.M. & made up 8 skins. Found the new species of long tailed lizzard up at 8300 feet. Killed one & saw 2 more. [[underlined]] Aug. 2 [[/underlined]] Sunday. Went for a ride up the trail & saw a Zapus but did not catch it. [[underlined]] Aug. 3. [[/underlined]] Took a bag of traps in morning and started up the stream south east of camp. Took the right hand trail & went up to a little lake to the west of Farwell Gap. Found a nice place up there at edge of snow & close to timberline. There is a flat grassy meadow, with big snow banks along the side next the N.E. face of rocky peaks. A little lake about 8 rods across & 4 or 5 feet deep in a
