[[blank page]] [[end page]] [[start page]] [[underlined]] Aug. 10 [[/underlined]] Wrote a report all of forenoon. Caught a Zapus, a Sorex, a Tamias minimus some Arvicola & Hesperomes. Packed up and started at 1 P.M. Followed up the trail and over Farewell Gap and down Little Kern River to where the trail leaves it for Big Kern. Camped early and made up things caught. Shot 3 Vesperugo fuscus They are numerous & seem to be the only Bat. Saw a lot of Night Hawks. Took notes on trees down Little Kern River. It runs nearly S. & we followed down the east side so had a good S.W. slope, got some limits on the opposite N.E. slope. Found the lower zones pushed away up above those on Kaweah River. Should think we came 6 miles from Farewell Gap. Camped in Pinus jefferyi & Abies concolor. My barometer read 9450 on summit of Gap, Coville read 1075. It is said to be 11400 feet. At camp tonight my aneroid reads 7100. It is warm here, just pleasant. Little Kern is too big to jump across & it is full of trout. P.S. Learned that where we camped is called Lion Meadows. Followed its general direction but across ridges to the N.E. of it, and camped within a mile of it at Trout Meadows. Came about 18 miles.
