[[underlined]] Aug. 13 [[/underlined]] Took a tramp up the river, found a country above here leveler along the river and large flats covered with thick timber and brush. Sheep have been over most of it but not on the islands. These are grown up to rank grass and weeds and underbrush. Found Otter tracks and a small Bear track. Several Bear have been seen along the flat lately. Saw a Weasel but did not get a shot at it. Killed a Pine Squirrel and a Bubo and some birds. Shot 2 big trout.  Vesperaugo fuscus is common in evening. 

[[underlined]] Aug 14. [[/underlined]] Coville and I hunted Bear all of forenoon, saw a lot of fresh tracks but no Bear. Shot a Zapus, Coville[[strikethrough]]d[[/strikethrough]] killed a Rattle Snake. They are common.  3 species of Scaloporus are common, a black one on rocks 8 inches long, one the size of S. graciosus & a little one.

Set traps along river flats.

The river is full of fine trout but they do not bite well.  We have had about 3 good messes.  Our men fish all of their spare time.
