[[blank page]] [[start page]] [[end page]] [[underlined]] Aug. 19 [[/underlined]]. Started early for our camp, brought one Dutchers barometers with me & took several readings. Set traps all of P.M. Packed specimens in evening. A clear, cold day. heavy frost in morning. [[underlined]] Aug. 20 [[/underlined]], Coville, Dutcher & I went up the high ridge at north end of Whitney Meadows, took mercurial barometer and read it at timberline on S.W. slope. Went about 800 feet above timber, Did not see any Lagomys but found their dung, also found dung of a Rabbit 500 feet above timberline. Found Arctomys tracks and saw Tamias pictus at 400 feet above timber. Short some Lucostictes & other birds. Caught a lot of Arvicolas of two species, Caught a Hesperomys sonoriensis & 2 Tamias lateralis & a T. minimus & 2 Scuirus & fine Arctomys & a Neosorex. Set more traps up near timberline. Did not get back till after dark. Had nothing to eat all day & were very faint & tired. Sent our man to Lone Pine for supplies & mail. A frosty morning, clear & pleasant day.
