[[underlined]] June 7 [[/underlined]] We hunted all of forenoon and each killed a Gray Squirrel but saw no[[strikethrough]] t [[/strikethrough]] Fox Squirrels
Wrote on report, skinned squirrels, & packed up in P.M. and left Mer Rouge at 6:30, reached Monroe at 7:30 and have to wait 23 hours for west bound train.
A hot day, heavy showers around.

[[underlined]] June 8 [[/underlined]]. Had to wait all day at Monroe for a train to Shreveport. Finished up my report and wrote letters. Identified a few plants. A hot day.
[[underlined]] June 9 [[/underlined]] Reached Shreveport at 2 A.M.
Found Thompson and gave him instructions and took a 9:30 A.M. train for Texarkana and arrived there at 2 P.M.
Took a long tramp out of town but found the country all thickly settled and no good collecting ground. Concluded to go farther west to some wilder locality.
Have to wait till morning for a train.
1 From Shreveport to Texarkana The country is somewhat hilly, broken and open.
There is not much heavy forest but most of the country is covered with scrubby Quercus nigra and Pinus teda & Mitis. Some brushy thickets, open grassy patches. Larger timber along streams
Some Geomys hills along but none at Texarkana.  Soil sandy, gravelly, & clayey. Some boulders.
