then seen at Gibson. May occur along the road through the Territory but did not see them and do not think they are between Arthur & Ft. Smith.
Reached Ft. Gibson just before dark.

[[underlined]] June 17 [[/underlined]] Hunted, set Geomys traps. Killed a Cottontail & caught one Geomys, Rained in P.M. so I could not attend to my traps. Got a few birds. Packed skins and stuffed my squirrels from Arthur.
Got some good information on mammals from Mr. Nash - a merchant.

[[underlined]] June 18 [[/underlined]] Found nothing in my traps, took them up, packed up and left Ft. Gibson at 10:30 A.M. arrived at Ft. Smith at 1:30 and at Marionville, Mo., at 9 P.M.
The forenoon was hot but as we climbed the Ozark Mts. to Fayetteville it grew cool and delightful, probably a change of weather as well as change of altitude & latitude.
Wheat and cherries are common at Ft. Gibson, the first I have seen this year. North of Ft. Smith I began to see fields of barley & wheat at [[strikethrough]] L [[/strikethrough]] Ringonwood (?) and
