[[blank page]] [[end page]] [[start page]] [[underline]] Galena to Marionville, Mo. [[/underline]] and is a man of intelligence & seems reliable. Wrote on my report in evening but did not finish it. Rained hard in P.M. & we got some wet. [[underline]] July 9 [[/underline]] Left Galena on stage at 9 A.M. & reached Marionville at 4 P.M. Finished my report before taking train at 8 P.M. for Greenfield. Reached [[strikethrough]] Greenfield [[/strikethrough]] South Greenfield in middle of night & went to hotel. [[underline]] July 10 [[/underline]] Took a long tramp about South Greenfield and inquired about the country & animal life. Found a hard clay soil & no signs of animal life such as I want, so took the 10 A.M. train for Golden City a little farther west. This does not promise well but I will try it a few days. [[underline]] July 11 [[/underline]] Monday - Started out early with gun & bag of traps. Asked lots of questions among the farmers. Followed a load of hay and caught one young Arvicola under a hay-cock, set traps around in the field but did not find any good signs. Got a young Rabbit & 2 Gray Squirrels.
