Dug a hole about 10 inches deep in the ground near it, dragged it in trap to the hole & tumbled it in. threw grass over the hole and poured in bisulphide & in 6 minutes took out Spilogale dead.

[[underlined]] Aug. [[/underlined]] 29. Left Canadian at 9 A.M. and reached Woodward at 1 P.M. Crossed the wide sand bed of the Canadian River and struck into sandhill country. Crossed a few small creeks with scattering trees (Cottonwood & Cedar Elm & Willow) most of the country is sand-hills or rolling prairie covered with splendid grass. Only a few strips of clay soil crossed. Very few ranches seen and but 2 small stations.
The train scared up 3 flocks of Pinnated Grouse, seemed to be 8 or 10 in each of two flocks & I saw 5 in the other. Saw no other birds of note.
Geomys hills were common all the way, Of Prairie dogs I saw but two small colonies.
