Dear Colin:

It was so very pleasant to see your handwriting on your little note of January 30, for which I thank you.

How generous of you to send me two catalogues of the Bowes Museum paintings. I do appreciate your gesture but of course for reference and research it is unfortunate they are not illustrated, but as one should not look into the mouth of a gift horse, I assume I should not make such comments....!

I was truly puzzled by the announcement of this exhibition, never having heard of this public institution, so richly endowed.

I definitely hope to go to London later this season, provided I can get a bed somewhere in your great town, for I am told that the coronation feasts have completely jammed up
