May 8th., 1947

Dear Colin:

Your little note from London of May 3rd., has just reached me, and I too want to say how very disappointed I am not to have seen you again, but with the last minute New York rush I am not surprised that you could not accomplish all you had planned to.

Answering your query, I do hope you will not mind if I ask you to return now the ROGER VAN DER WEYDEN portrait. I believe I expressed my position at length in the letter you received in New York before leaving, and from your letter I gather you will agree with me that this is the wisest solution, if not the most pleasant one for you.

Will you thus be good enough to have it delivered to Chenue, who I surmise is still working as in olden days, requesting him to pack and ship the painting to us at the above address. In fact, I shall confirm these instructions to him shortly.

With renewed thanks for your understanding and cooperation, and with best regards,

Sincerely yours,

(Germain Seligman)
