routine matters. Mr Marshall has mounted during the month, for the exhibition series, 34 specimens, which have been put up in his best style, and form attractive additions to the collection.

In the Section of Oology, Miss Perkins has been busily employed with catalogueing specimens, no less than 1329 eggs and 7 nests, having been catalogued, and numbered during the month. But one paper for publication, based on Museum material, has been prepared during the month. The title is as follows: "Description of a new Cardinal Grosbeak from Arizona." [ [[underlined]]Cardinalis cardinalis superbus[[/underlined]]. ] The paper, comprising 4 pages (MS.) was sent Aug. 29th, to the editor of the "Auk" for publication in the October number of that journal - its publication therein rather than in the "Proceedings" of the Museum being desirable for several reasons which it is unnecessary to explain here.

Transcription Notes:
"Miss Perkins" is written the old-fashioned way, with the first s looking like a f to our eyes. Per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_s, the Long S "is found in handwriting into the second half of the nineteenth century". Although 1885 is late for this style, the copyest (this is not Ridgway's handwriting) may have learned "Miss" many years ago and automatically reverted to that style while copying this report.
