shown from the seal skin boat proved soon after their intention to land, at that moment the whale boat was three miles from shore, and though under reefed sails she was running nicely over pretty high seas, but we had to follow the "bagdara". We had much trouble by landing on account of the big surf and the inexperience of our Kamtchadal crew. All of us got wet through but at least nobody was hurt, and our baggage and provisions were safe. We were then about thirty miles north of Lessnoi. After sunset the wind increased to a gale with rain and snow and the appearance of the weather was quite discouraging.

Meanwhile Kennan had travelled with great difficulty, came out next day to the place assigned and seeing the appearance of the weather, and the gloomy aspect of the sea returned to Lessnoi. His report about the road was most unfavourable, whilst crossing the first range of mountains he was caught in a snow storm and the horses though carrying no load could hardly advance.

It was impossible to cross the mountains with pack horses, wind and snow rendered a sea voyage still more impracticable, our men were exhausted and all declared that they could go no further. We have done all that was possible, nothing I believe had been neglected but we had to submit to the infuriated elements, and a halt in Lessnoi became [[indispable?]]

Transcription Notes:
I believe the final word, which continues onto the next page, is likely to be "indispensable" as it's the only word that makes sense in this context. Regarding "Lessnoi", one of the members of this expedition (Kennan) wrote a book called Tent Life in Siberia, (search google books for this title - it mentions Lessnoi). So, it's not Sessions.
