at present promises well. He has sent out the party to explore to the north of Norton Sound, and when dogs arrive which have been sent for will start for Fort Yukon. He is here now but business presses and he cannot write himself for want of time.

The season was in great part gone when we arrived here and I have not done as much at natural history yet as I wished to do, but next spring is the time for that work. I am not so good a taxidermist as I could wish but Pease is going to be here which I think will prosper this cause immensely - and next spring will be well improved. I have already done some work and am trying to do more all the time.
