Gentlemen

I have the honor to submit the following report of operations during the season ending December 31" 1866. The Marine 
[[margin]] Marine Service [[/margin]] Force of the Expedition was increased during the
[[margin]] Purchases and [[/margin]] winter of '65 to '66 by the purchase of the Ship
[[margin]] Manufactured [[/margin]] "Nightingale" and barks "H L Rutgers" and "Onward"
the Schooner Milton Badger, having been sold the fleet now numbers One Steamer one ship and five Barks, besides the small steamers. One small propeller the "Stager" was built here for Service in Behring's Straits but was not completed at the time of the sailing of the fleet. A stern wheel steamer the "Mumford" was built in Puget Sound and during the past season has done good service on the Fraser River and along the Coast of British America  Two smaller stern wheel steamers of light draft – the "Wade" and the "Wilder" built for service on the Anadyr and Krichpak Rivers and in Norton Sound were transported to the North by the ship "Nightingale."

[[margin]] "Saginaw" [[/margin]]     The US. Steamer "Saginaw" under command of Capt. S. A. Franklin reported to me for duty early in the summer by order of the Navy Dept. but owing to the delay in the arrival of the cable she was of but little service during the season. She is not well
