the Myan. They left one of the rafts, and divided the other into two small ones, which they brought down to deep water when Lt Macrae sent back a party under Mr Mason, to bring the other down.

The first raft was landed in sections along the river at convenient distances for winter transportation and as there was no longer any provisions with which to supply rafting parties, they went to the station below where the arrival of one of the Co's vessels was daily expected. Some of Lt Macrae's party were so badly bitten by mosquitoes and moskes that they were hardly recognisable and many could scarcely open their eyes.

Upon our return to the Station we found the barque "Clara Bell" lying at anchor in Wade river, with Major Wright on board, who informed us that the work had been suspended, and gave orders for us to get in readiness to return to San Francisco as soon as possible.

As some of the men were yet on the Myan, and considerable property at the Myan Station we sent the Wade off early in the morning to bring them down. She got above Vaccarana on the Myan when the water became so shoal that it was impossible to proceed farther. Here they met Mr Mason and party with the other raft, and as it would be impossible to reach Myan Station and return in the time allowed by Maj Wright, they immediately turned back.
